If you are interested in more than a general introduction to AT through our Open Lab hours, our AT Lab has two certified ATPs (Assistive Technology Professionals) on staff for consultations. One is an Occupational Therapist (OT) and the other is a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).
What is an AT Assessment?
Assistive Technology Assessments are comprehensive and collaborative sessions to help an individual find technology solutions. These assessments can sometimes be brief for simple challenges, such as finding ways to hold paper stable at a desk (a slant clip board). For more complex needs, assessments can range over days, weeks, to months, to ensure appropriate matches to solutions and to allow time for exploration and skill development (especially for technology or strategies that might be new to you).
Our Model
Our consultation model focuses not only on individuals who use AT but also their support communities (family, therapists, teachers, job-coaches, caregivers, support staff, etc.) Success with AT relies on finding a “good fit” but also on robust support for implementation of AT in the community. An Inclusive Consultation Model helps to lay this foundation for success.
Due to the size of our staff and need in our area, consultations are limited to a maximum of 6 total hours during a 6-month period. Depending on your desires, we may just get you started on your AT journey and then refer you to a community partner or coordinate with someone in the community who already works with you. Collaboration is key to appropriate and successful AT.
How do I schedule and what is the cost?
Beginning August 2018: If you are interested in an AT Consultation, please contact us for intake information and funding options. Private Direct Consultations are charged at a subsidized hourly rate of $75/hour. Indirect fees are between $40-50/hr. Travel time and mileage are charged for off-site consultations. These below-market rates are made possible by grant funding. At this time, the AT Lab does not bill medical insurance; however, consultations may be covered through local charity options. In addition, income and need-based scholarships will be available starting Fall 2018.
School Districts, Government Agencies, and Organizations
We offer on-site and off-site consultations for children and adults. Please contact us for more information and rates.
